Oilseed Works named “hometown hero”

Earth Day Canada (EDC) recently named Oilseed Works Inc. of Dalston, ON. as the winner of its 2011 Earth Day Canada Hometown Hero award. The awards recognize companies for outstanding commitment to the environment. This is the first year EDC is recognizing a small business Hometown Hero.

Greg Herriott of Oilseed Works said, “It is an absolute thrill and honour to receive this award. Many of our mentors over the years have been on this podium, and to now be accepting this recognition is fantastic.” Under its brand name Hempola, Oilseed Works introduced Canada to hemp foods in 1995. In 1999, it invented hempseed flour as well as the world’s first omega-3 salad dressings. Converting productive agricultural acreage to non-GMO crops, namely hemp, flax and sunflower, is the company’s long-term mission.
