Got Vision? Getting to the essence of your store

Natural health retail stores and the beautiful people that work in these stores are known to ooze with passion. Hey, they're certainly not in it for the money (although that's where I want to take you!) They do it because they love it.  And they love to spread the word of natural health and wellbeing.

Hey, they're certainly not in it for the money (although that's where I want to take you!) They do it because they love it. And they love to spread the word of natural health and wellbeing.

So, what about the old adage, "Do what you love and the money will come." Is it not working? It's because there's no concrete vision behind it.

Have you tapped into the essence of your store's strengths? What is it that only your store can offer? Do you compound custom herbal formulations? Are you all about the exclusive European homeopathics? Do you carry the latest and greatest in natural skin care? Are you natural pet care experts? ?

Tap into what is behind the everyday. Focus on that – as if your business depends on that – because it does. ?And then, let it explode. Be that, and (almost) nothing else.

Create a vision board for your business

Once you have established what's at the essence of your brand, let it take shape. Once you have given a name to your unique style essence, i.e. 'homeopathic heaven', involve your entire team and create a brand map.

How to:     Plan a vision party. Take an over-sized piece of white board and spend an evening with coloured pens, magazines, and anything else you want. Unleash your creativity. Cut out words and pictures. Tell the story of your store's vision. Create a piece that speaks to everyone. And continue to add to it, keep it fresh – and DON'T let it get dusty.

Now, place it somewhere your entire team can see it daily – and be reminded to live the vision. Trust and believe fiercely in this vision. Greatness is often created by small significant day-by-day actions.

The bottom line:     Whatever you personally believe in, now is a time of change. The consciousness of business is shifting, so allow your business to shift with it and prosper.

Creating a mission and a vision will allow you and your business to be accountable for manifesting it. If you're at a restaurant, and you don't put in an order, the kitchen won't serve you. The same applies universally. If you don't order it – and be specific – it has no chance of arriving.

In the end, learning to harness your store's individual passion and strength will yield sales. You're cleansing and unlocking the flow. Now...just do it! •
