Hedley's Health Hut finds a new home

Bob Hedley had been waiting for the right time to move his store. Who knew the right time would take 31 years to arrive?

Bob Hedley had been waiting for the right time to move his store. Who knew the right time would take 31 years to arrive?

Hedley's Health Hut – founded in 1977 – moved into the Shopper's Mall in Brandon, Manitoba in September of 1980. Over the years, the store began to really fill out its 715 sq. ft. space. In recent years, it got to a point where the store desperately needed more space. So, Bob began watching...and waiting for a new space to open in the mall.

"We had outgrown our location many years ago and were just waiting for the right spot and location to open up." It arrived in the form of a 1,500 sq. ft. space that became available almost next door to the original location.

The best things about the new space? Bob says its much more customer friendly, there are two cash lines instead of one and it has an exceptional glass store front. "Also, it allows us to expand in some areas. We now specialize in gluten-free products and have a much larger health and beauty section. It's three times the size it was before."

As with every move, there were a few challenges, offered Bob. "Having the inventory stored somewhere ahead of time was one thing, and the other was timing – contractors are seldom on schedule, so at the end, it was just day-to-day decisions."

The good news is Hedley's didn't lose any business during the transition because they were able to keep the old store open, except for one Sunday. The feedback from customers has been very rewarding and a great confidence booster. "It's been fantastic," Bob exclaimed, "People can not believe the difference." • by Melissa Chapman
