The Nature's Fare store at the Orchard Plaza in Kelowna, B.C. has just completed a major addition.

Alexa Monahan of Nature's Fare said, "We've added 2,500 square feet, mainly retail. We've increased the size of each of our departments (deli, produce, grocery, meats, haba, vitamins/supplements) as well as adding additional cash registers."

Alexa says the expansion – taking the store from just over 10,000 sq. ft. to just under 13,000 sq. ft. – was badly needed. "This is our flagship store and it was bursting at the seams. We've expanded it a number of times already and the lack of space meant we had to go with small aisles and a cramped shopping experience. What started out as our biggest store turned into one of our smaller ones, and we desperately needed more space."

Miraculously, the much-needed space became available when the snowboard shop next door relocated, which freed up a large amount of space. "The expansion has been easy as a result," explained Alexa. "We completed all the work in the new space (painting, floors, etc) and then knocked down the wall connecting the two spaces."

Before the space next door became available, Alexa says there were thoughts of finding a new location. "We looked at a number of options but decided that our current location is best. We have ample parking, and a very central location in Kelowna. It's an ideal place for us right now."

This was the first Nature's Fare in the Okanagen Valley, opened in 1994. •
