Organika lends a hand in ravaged community

For the past two years, Organika has supported Fundamentals for Change (FFC) with donations of supplements, school supplies and clothing.  Most recently, the village of Riverton, Jamaica was the beneficiary of FCC’s efforts to make a difference.

In March of 2015, Riverton experienced one of the most devastating fires in the small community’s history.  Thousands of acres of landfill ignited into flames, causing unbearable living conditions and extremely poor air quality.

In November, Aaron Chin, national sales lead for Organika, went to Riverton to support the FFC team. It is a Canadian not-for-profit organization. Volunteers with FFC spent many months in  Riverton providing the community and children with education support, goods for their health clinic and most importantly, providing love.  As well, FFC provided natural health supplements to the children living with nutritional deficiencies everyday.

FFC has founded a free breakfast program and regularly distributes clothing to parents who do not have the means.  The group supports families with medical aid, outreach programs, sponsoring education. FFC also built a playground at the local school.

“This experience put life into perspective for me.  We take so much for granted living in Canada,”  said Aaron. “One child’s house burned down.  He was wearing shoes that were four sizes too small, but there was no way to take the smile off his face.”
