Industry gains a powerful advocate with Apotex acquisition of Canprev
Following the acquisition of CanPrev Natural Health Products by Canadian-based global health company Apotex, CanPrev founders Tanya and Franco Salituro see a bright future for the company they founded 20 years ago, and by extension, for natural health retailers.
In a press release to the industry announcing the acquisition, the Salituros stated: “For a mission-driven company like ours, no acquisition is an easy decision. But Apotex is different. Like us, they are proudly Canadian and deeply committed to improving health outcomes at home. Their five-decade fight for accessible, effective medicines aligns with our two-decade legacy of providing accessible, effective natural health products (NHPs). With Apotex as our owner, our industry gains a powerful advocate for keeping NHPs accessible to all Canadians.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone, as Apotex expands its presence in the natural and consumer health categories, and together we take our shared mission to new heights.
“While our ownership is changing, many things are not. Our organizational structure, operations, and partner relationships remain the same. CanPrev will continue to operate under its trusted branding, with no changes to our core leadership team. As the founders, we will continue to provide guidance and advice to support the growth of our organization.
“Together, we look forward to new opportunities to provide exceptional products through our trusted brands—CanPrev, Cyto-Matrix, and Orange Naturals—and to empower you in serving your customers, clients, and patients.”
Perhaps best known as a maker of generic medicines, Apotex on its website, says: “We improve everyday access to affordable, innovative medicines and health products for patients and consumers worldwide.
“Over the past 50 years, we have grown from a core generics business to a global enterprise, pioneering Canadian innovation and leveraging our footprint to open markets around the world.
“With Canadian roots and a broad portfolio of generic, biosimilar, and innovative branded pharmaceuticals and consumer health products, we are the largest Canadian-based pharmaceutical company and a health partner of choice for the Americas for pharmaceutical licensing and product acquisitions.”
