Celebrating Randy Whittaker: 2025 CHFA Willie Pelzer Hall of Fame inductee

Submitted by Lynsey Walker, vice president, marketing & communications, CHFA

The Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) has announced Randy Whittaker as the recipient of the 2025 CHFA Willie Pelzer Hall of Fame Award. Over a remarkable, four-decade career, Randy’s leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment have helped shape Canada’s natural, organic, and wellness industry.

For 34 years, Randy served as General Manager of Ontario Natural Food Co-op (ONFC), transforming it from a modest $1.5 million distributor to a $50 million powerhouse. Under his guidance, ONFC executed four warehouse expansions, became the first grocery supplier to Whole Foods Canada, and established itself as a trusted, co-operatively governed partner to leading independent retailers nationwide.

Randy’s legacy is marked not only by his business success, but also by his dedication to building an ethical and sustainable industry. He launched the Ontario Natural brand, which continues to spotlight locally grown products, and pioneered the On Deck program to help emerging brands get shelf space. He has shared his insight as a judge for Venturepark and Canadian Women in Food, while advocating for organics through the Organic Council of Ontario and CHFA.

Known for his values-driven leadership and deep respect for people and planet, Randy’s contributions extend beyond commerce. His influence is evident in a more sustainable, community-oriented food system—and felt in the many lives he has touched.

Congratulations, Randy, on this well-deserved honour. Your legacy is a lasting inspiration to us all.

Randy, along with all the other winners, will be receiving their awards during the CHFA Achievement Awards celebration presented at CHFA NOW Toronto on September 20. For more information, please visit chfanow.ca/toronto.
