Honouring the past, looking ahead
By Ellen Wheeler
This issue of CNHR marks a new chapter for both the magazine and myself. I’m honoured to step into the role of publisher and carry forward the work and vision that Bruce Cole has so passionately led.
Bruce, who’s entering a well-earned retirement, has been more than my colleague; he’s been a close friend for over 25 years. Together, we’ve shared a deep commitment to the natural health industry, the retailers, and the community that surrounds them. My own path began in this field nearly three decades ago, when I joined Alive Publishing Group in 1997. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to watch this sector grow and deepen its impact across the country. Stepping into this role feels like the natural progression of a journey I’ve been on for many years, and I’m grateful for and proud of the opportunity to help carry forward Bruce’s mission.
As I reflect on this transition, I’m struck by how fitting the themes of our two store features are. Our piece on Nature’s Way Select Foods and Brewing Supplies reminds us that it’s never too late to embrace change and pursue a new direction, while our story on Homesteader Health Foods highlights the power of love in building lasting teams. It’s a compelling reminder that at the heart of this business are people who truly care about their communities, colleagues, and impact.
In this issue, we take a deep dive into CHFA NOW Vancouver 2026, highlighting the event’s key insights and innovations. As always, we share exclusive perspectives from our columnists and the latest news and updates from across the country.
I look forward to building on the legacy that Bruce helped shape and continuing to support the incredible people and businesses that make up this industry.
I am always happy to connect and would love to hear from you.
